Although it was Deutsche Boerse who called off consolidation talks with Borsa Italiana, the abrupt split is still a setback for the German exchange. That’s because Deutsche Boerse has been arguing that a transatlantic deal between Euronext and the New York Stock Exchange is not in Europe’s best interest.
