Chuck Prince pretty much killed off rumours that Citigroup might buy Societe Generale when he said last week that a large mature European bank wasn’t on the US firm’s menu.
But this idea always looked far-fetched. With a market capitalisation of about E60bn ($76bn), the French would be a huge mouthful for anyone - even the $250bn US bank - once you added in a premium.
