Starting a battle that one is likely to lose is never a good idea. So Sir Ken Morrison, chairman of supermarket group Wm Morrison, was wise to back down from an outright war with his deputy chairman, David Jones. Had investors been forced to choose between the two men, it was no longer clear that Sir Ken would win. The result is that Sir Ken has finally agreed to appoint three new non-executives to the embattled supermarket group’s board.
