Rupert Murdoch is jumping through hoops to convince the Bancrofts to part with their controlling interest in Dow Jones. He’s offering the family a board seat at News Corp., promising the editorial independence of the Wall Street Journal, and pledging to invest heavily. But all he really may need to do is open his wallet and throw a few extra banknotes to the Bancroft family, rather than raise his overall offer.
