Why don’t London’s airports work? The UK Competition Commission is “inclined” to believe that it’s because seven airports, including London’s Gatwick and Heathrow, are all owned by single private company, BAA. In a paper on its emerging thinking, the CC says a break-up of the monopoly might encourage competition between the airports, and by extension, better service and more efficient investment.
But a break-up would only improve things if the airports could genuinely compete against each other...
