We’ve failed, so pay up or else. General Motors is fine-tuning its scare tactics for Europe, thus showing that, contrary to popular beliefs, it can actually adapt to local markets. The US carmaker is asking European governments for E3bn-plus of aid under the veiled threat of closing down three of its underperforming factories. In exchange, governments are asked to take stakes in the troubled operations. Maybe they’re also expected to say thank you.
