The gas tax holidays of Senators John McCain and Hillary Clinton are economically nonsensical. They would increase consumption, which would worsen American dependence on the Middle East, raise oil prices and speed global warming. Clinton’s Exxon-bashing, describing its first-quarter profits as “Dick Cheney’s Wonderland” further distances her from the economically-sensible Barack Obama.
