David Ross’ sudden departure is another black mark against Carphone Warehouse. The co-founder and deputy chairman of the UK mobile retailer is leaving under a cloud after belatedly disclosing that he had pledged most of his 19% stake in the company against personal loans struck over the last two years. With Carphone shares down sharply this year and the group struggling with tough consumer markets, his ignominious exit could scarcely have come at a worse time.
