For a moment, a family feud at US cable group Cablevision looked set to boldly highlight the pitfalls for investors in owning US media stocks. Like most of the industry – be it Comcast in cable, Viacom in general media or the New York Times in publishing – Cablevision has two classes of stock. One, with super-charged voting rights, puts the Dolan family in control over holders of ordinary stock, though they are entitled to most of its economics.
