Even during the Cold War, Russia never shut off oil supplies to Western Europe. The fact that it has now closed supplies via the Belarus pipeline shows how dangerously dependent Europe is on Moscow. During the Cold War, well-meaning but misguided liberals agonised about whether they should keep nuclear arms. The current debate is over nuclear energy. There really shouldn’t be much debate.
