The Bank of England has hiring problems. The central bank’s Monetary Policy Committee is now short two members. The sudden death of David Walton only last week accounts for one, but the other seat has been vacant since March, when Richard Lambert left to head an industrial lobbying group. There are also quality issues. David Blanchflower, the newest member, has only a modest academic reputation and had never written on monetary policy.
